In 2004, Keystone Human Services International Moldova Association (KHSIMA) was founded as a subsidiary of Keystone Human Services International to carry out its mission throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The six years of experience that we have today started with an idea that came from one of the Keystone Internship Program’s participants to create a Children and Family Center in her home village.
Since then, we have committed to creating an environment where all people, regardless of background and ability, can grow, make choices, and be valued as contributing members of their communities.
Inspired by this vision and the positive changes we have noticed in the lives of the children that we support as a result of our efforts, in 2006 we expanded our work founding with the support of the European Commission the second Children and Family Center in the village of Bacioi. Thus we have focused our activity to support children and families who are living in difficult social situations to become more independent. The Community Centers currently offer services of social and educational integration to about 100 children whose parents are dependent on alcohol and live in the conditions of extreme poorness, and children left under the care of grandparents or other relatives because their parents work abroad. At the same time, the Centers offer assistance and psychological counseling to parents and tutors.
In 2008 we launched the “Community for All-Moldova”. This initiative is supported by Open Society Institute Mental Health Initiative and has the aim to support the people with disabilities placed in institutions or at risk to be institutionalized. This is an action that will change the lives of many, many people because we create new services and work on the legislative normative level to have them accepted at the national level.
At this moment we are a team of 55 people in Moldova that are committed to fight for a better life and give hope to the people in need.
On this blog, we would like to share our vision of providing human services on a regional scale being a part of an international organization. As all of the great networks of committed global organizations we aspire and focus our efforts to be the change that we wish to see in this world.
